CareSource rates 'excellent' in state evaluation
DAYTON, Ohio, January 7, 2003 – CareSource, Ohio’s largest Medicaid managed health care plan, received high marks in a recent performance evaluation conducted by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
CareSource received an overall score of “excellent” from ODJFS’s Performance Evaluation and Incentive System, making it one of the top-performing plans in the state. Only one other Medicaid health plan in Ohio received a rating this high.
CareSource is proud of these evaluation results, said President and CEO Pamela Morris.
“We were rated on many factors that contribute to the successful operation of a managed health care plan,” Morris said. “We are extremely pleased with our rating and owe it to the hard work of the CareSource staff and the health care providers we partner with to serve our members.”
CareSource was evaluated in areas such as quality and clinical performance, consumer satisfaction and consumer access to primary health care among others. This was the first year for ODJFS to adopt this comprehensive assessment tool.

CareSource offers all of the services that traditional Medicaid covers plus extra benefits at no cost to members. Extra benefits include a 24-hour nurse hotline, nurses available for individualized health education, a gift certificate program for pregnant members, and transportation to some doctor’s visits. Over 260,000 Ohioans are enrolled statewide.
