CareSource becomes preferred health plan in Clark County


DAYTON
, Ohio , March 3, 2003 -- CareSource, the largest Medicaid managed health care plan in Ohio , is now the designated managed health care plan for many Medicaid consumers in Clark County . This change is due to the preferred option program established by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

 

Effective this month, Healthy Start, Healthy Families Medicaid consumers in the county can opt to receive their health care benefits through regular fee-for-service Medicaid or through CareSource. Those who do not make a choice will be automatically enrolled in CareSource. They will be free to disenroll at any time.

 

The ODJFS chose CareSource based on its positive track record and proven ability to serve the needs of Medicaid consumers in the area. CareSource has served Clark County residents for over five years and is the preferred option managed health care plan in five other counties in Ohio.

 

Established in 1989, CareSource is a nonprofit organization that provides services exclusively to Medicaid consumers in 13 Ohio counties -- Butler, Clark, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Lorain, Montgomery, Pickaway, Stark, Summit and Warren County. It is one of the top 15 largest Medicaid health plans in the nation based on enrollment. CareSource offers all of the services that traditional Medicaid covers plus extra benefits at no cost to members. Extra benefits include a 24-hour nurse hotline, nurses available for individualized health education, a gift certificate program for pregnant members, and transportation to some medical appointments. Over 268,000 Ohioans are enrolled statewide.
