Foundation Awards 2nd Quarter Grants

       DAYTON, Ohio, July 17, 2008 -- The CareSource Foundation recently announced its latest round of health care grant awards.   The Foundation focuses funding on four key areas including issues of the uninsured, critical health trends, community health issues and broad collaboration with other organizations and funders.  Awards totaling $125,000 have been granted to the following 12 organizations:

  • Adventures for Wish Kids:  $5,000 grant to provide “wishes” for families of children with life-threatening illness.
  • American Diabetes Association of Southwest Ohio:  $5,000 grant to support Camp Korelitz for children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
  • Artemis Center for Alternatives to Domestic Violence:  $15,000 grant to provide advocacy, counseling and family services for victims of domestic violence.
  • Butler County Community Health Consortium:  $10,000 grant to subsidize healthcare for 40,000 medically uninsured individuals in Hamilton and Middletown.
  • Children’s Medical Center Dayton:  $25,000 grant so support Project BREATHE in-home asthma assessment and management program
  • Diabetes Association of the Dayton Area:  $5,000 grant to support nutrition, weight management and disease control resources for children with diabetes
  • Kettering Medical Center Foundation:  $15,000 grant to support the Women’s Wellness Fund including mammograms for the uninsured/underserved.
  • Miami Valley Hospital Foundation:  $10,000 grant to support “Heartworks for Women” targeting high-risk populations and assisting with diagnosis of cardiovascular issues.
  • National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Miami Valley Chapter: $5,000 grant to provide educational and financial resources for individuals with MS in a 24-county region.
  • Toledo-Lucas County CareNet: $15,000 grant to support safety-net medical services for low-income, uninsured residents.
  • Transitional Housing, Inc.:  $5,000 grant to support an integrated system of care for homeless women and children.
  • Viola Startzman Free Clinic:  $10,000 grant to provide free-clinic services for low-income residents of Wayne County, Ohio.
