CareSource Foundation Awards Grants

  DAYTON, Ohio, April 16, 2008 -- The CareSource Foundation recently announced its latest round of health care grant awards.   The Foundation focuses funding on four key areas including issues of the uninsured, critical health trends, community health issues and broad collaboration with other organizations and funders.  Awards totaling $147,000 have been granted to the following 20 organizations:

  • Akron Children’s Hospital:  $10,000 grant to support the first Pediatric Diabetes Education Camp in the Akron region.
  • American Cancer Society:  $2,500 grant to support the Patient Navigator program which will provide education, financial assistance, and social service resources for cancer patients
  • Mom’s House of Toledo:  $7,500 grant to support programs, health education and meals for teen mothers and their children at “Mom’s House” in the Toledo region.
  • Boonshoft Museum of Discovery:  $10,000 grant to support “Exhibits-to-Go” health education for children in the areas of nutrition, fitness, sun exposure, smoking and healthy lifestyles.
  • Far West Center:  $4,000 grant to support early detection and treatment for new mothers at risk for postpartum depression in the Cleveland region.
  • Legal Aid Society of Cincinnati:  $4,000 grant to support an information blitz on health insurance options during national Cover the Uninsured Week.
  • Linda Vista Project:  $5,000 grant to support transitional housing and life skills programming for homeless women and children.
  • Health Information Exchange:  $10,000 grant to provide health, education and social services information for nine free clinics serving the uninsured in Clark & Champaign Counties.
  • Ohio Health Foundation:  $12,500 grant to support the “Wellness on Wheels” mobile health unit providing preventative care, health screenings and prenatal care in the Columbus region.
  • Rebuilding Together Dayton:  $6,000 grant to impact quality of life for low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners through volunteerism and community outreach.
  • Rocking Horse Center:  $4,000 grant to provide therapy and support services for families of children with ADD/ADHD diagnoses.

 

  • South Community:  $5,000 grant to provide support for the Adolescent Behavioral Health Summer Skills program.
  • The Grandview Foundation:  $15,000 grant for “DO-WOP” (Diabetes and Obesity Wellness Opportunities Program) which focuses on health, nutrition and fitness for urban families in the Dayton region.
  • The Lighthouse Community Center:  $2,500 grant to provide vocational mentoring for urban families in the Toledo region.
  • Think TV:  $10,000 to support the annual “Speaking of Women’s Health” conference which spotlights trends, presentation and treatment of women’s health issues.
  • Toledo Area Ministries:  $4,000 to support a collaboration of 125 multi-denominational churches providing outreach for the “Managed Care Advocacy” program in Lucas County.
  • Unified Health Solutions:  $5,000 grant for the “Miami Valley Teen Coalition” to coordinate a centralized system for linking adolescent health service providers with individuals and families.
  • Wellness Connection of Dayton:  $7,500 grant to assist low-income and uninsured adults to obtain health services, manage disease and receive client advocacy services.
  • YMCA of Greater Dayton:  $15,000 grant to support collaboration of services impacting childhood health and wellness education with emphasis on childhood obesity prevention.
  • Youth Challenge:  $7,500 grant to provide adaptive sports and recreational activities for children with physical disabilities in Northeast Ohio.
