CareSource Selected for Children's Buy-In Program
DAYTON, Ohio, April 7, 2008 – CareSource is pleased to announce that it has been selected as the managed care provider for the Ohio Children’s Buy-In Program.
“We’re pleased that Governor Strickland and the Ohio General Assembly have chosen to focus on giving middle-class children with special needs access to health insurance,” said Pamela Morris, President and CEO.
CareSource was chosen to administer the statewide program because of its extensive managed care experience in Ohio and its strong statewide provider network.
“We are concerned about the challenges that these parents face every day as they try to get access to health insurance for their children,” said Morris. “We’ve seen first hand how valuable the managed care model can be to help improve healthcare for those who need it the most.”
Under the program, families earning more than 300 percent of the federal poverty level with children under the age of 19 can pay a monthly income-based premium for each eligible child for health care coverage, provided one of the following criteria apply:
- Unable to obtain insurance due to a pre-existing condition
- Lost insurance for exceeding the lifetime benefit limitation
- Cost of the only available insurance is more than twice the state premium for CBI; or
- The child participates in the Ohio Department of Health’s Program for Medically Handicapped Children.
Premiums, ranging from $250 to $500 a month, will be based on income. Families can apply online at www.jfs.ohio.gov/ohp/cbi. State officials expect about 5,000 uninsured or hard to insure children to participate in the program.
