CareSource named sixth-largest Medicaid HMO
Plan has more than 352,000 members in Ohio, almost 15,000 in Indiana
- DAYTON, Ohio, Feb. 23, 2005 -- CareSource, Ohio's largest Medicaid managed health care plan, is now the sixth-largest Medicaid HMO in the nation, according to a report by InterStudy, a leading researcher and publisher for the managed care industry.
As of February 1, 2005, CareSource had more than 352,000 members in Ohio and nearly 15,000 members in Indiana.
"We are gratified that so many Medicaid consumers have chosen to join CareSource," President and CEO Pamela B. Morris said. "With our focus on customer service, network of more than 8,000 providers, and extra benefits for members, we think we offer a health care plan that can truly make a difference."
CareSource's growth is all the more striking when compared with changes in the HMO industry, according to the report. From July 2003 to January 2004, enrollment in all HMOs declined by 1.7 percent, while Medicaid HMO enrollment declined by 1.5 percent. CareSource grew by 11.1 percent, adding 32,238 members.
InterStudy's HMO Industry Report was based on a survey of 850 managed care plans across the country, including 170 Medicaid HMOs with a combined membership of 14.3 million. HMO representatives answered detailed questions about their plans' characteristics, products and enrollment.
