CareSource expands service to Mahoning and Trumbull counties
DAYTON, Ohio, Sept. 6, 2005 – CareSource, Ohio’s largest Medicaid managed care plan, is expanding its service into Mahoning and Trumbull counties in northeastern Ohio. The plan began enrolling members there on September 1, and new membership will become effective October 1.
CareSource was approved to enroll members in Mahoning and Trumbull by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Both counties have been designated as mandatory enrollment, meaning that about 56,000 Medicaid recipients are required to join either CareSource or another approved managed care plan.
“We are excited about the opportunity to serve Medicaid consumers in Mahoning and Trumbull,” said CareSource President and Chief Executive Officer Pamela B. Morris. “We have formed strong partnerships with many key health care providers in these counties, so we can offer members a broad choice of doctors, hospitals and specialists.”
CareSource has contracted with almost 200 health care providers in Mahoning and Trumbull, including two major hospital systems that serve both counties.
Besides Mahoning and Trumbull, other counties in northeastern Ohio designated as mandatory enrollment for Medicaid managed care include Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lucas, Stark and Summit. At least two Medicaid managed care plans must be operating in a county for it to be designated as mandatory enrollment.
The state is expected to designate several additional counties as mandatory enrollment by the end of the year, including Butler, Clark, Franklin, Hamilton and Montgomery. CareSource operates in all of these counties.
