2004 Press Releases

CareSource announces management changes

DAYTON, Ohio, Jan. 20, 2004 – CareSource, Ohio’s largest Medicaid managed health-care plan, is pleased to announce several management changes that will position the company to handle the extraordinary growth it has experienced recently as well as further growth it expects in the future.

Jaclyn Smith has accepted the newly created position of Director of Learning and Performance, a department designed to address the training and development needs of CareSource’s rapidly expanding workforce. One of Smith’s major initiatives will be to develop a corporate university for employees, with course offerings and consulting services to align individual and team development to corporate goals.

Smith is president of Reflections on Learning, a Dayton-area training and development consulting firm dedicated to the professional development of leaders, managers and teams. She has also been a training consultant at Regional Agency Markets, GRE Insurance Group, Domino’s Pizza, and People Express Airlines.

“Overwhelmingly, employees have told us that more training and development is needed. Combining that feedback with our key corporate value of ‘Employees First’ led us to create the new department of Learning and Performance,” CareSource CEO Pamela Morris said. “We are extremely fortunate that Jackie has agreed to lead this initiative.”

In another management change, Kurt Lenhart has been promoted to Director of Internal Controls, the department responsible for the company’s Internal Audit and Fraud and Abuse programs. Lenhart will oversee internal audits of company processes such as computer configuration, claims processing, and regulatory compliance, as well as manage efforts to identify Medicaid fraud and abuse by CareSource members, providers or employees.

Among Lenhart’s goals are to improve CareSource’s system of internal controls and proactively identify fraudulent and abusive activity. Lenhart previously worked as a senior consultant at Deloitte and Touche LLP.

“Kurt has worked diligently to establish the internal audit and fraud and abuse programs at CareSource,” Morris said. “We expect that the development of these programs will make major strides under his leadership.”

Finally, CareSource is pleased to announce two changes in its regional offices with the promotions of Brent Walters and Elliot Cruz to Manager of Community Relations in the Marketing Department. Walters, based in CareSource’s Columbus office, will oversee marketing efforts and community relations in central and southwest Ohio, while Cruz, based in the Cleveland office, will oversee these efforts in northeast Ohio.

Both Walters and Cruz will work with community agencies to create, plan and direct activities that lead to the retention of current members and promote new enrollment. Their goal is to ensure that CareSource remains the first choice of Medicaid consumers who join a managed-care plan in Ohio.

Walters has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, including six years in management, and is certified as a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow. Cruz’s previous experience includes marketing and government positions with Cigna of Ohio and United American Health Corp.
